Planning a trip to Europe in 2026 or beyond? Use this checklist to stay ahead of the new ETIAS travel requirement.
🛂 Before You Apply
Confirm your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date
Verify that your destination countries are part of the ETIAS-required list
Check that your travel plans fall within the 90 days in any 180-day period rule
💻 Applying for ETIAS
Apply only through the official EU ETIAS website or mobile app once it launches
Have your passport available for accurate data entry
Provide a valid email address for approval notifications
Answer all security and travel history questions honestly
💶 Fees and Validity
Be prepared to pay the 20 euro fee if you are between the ages of 18 and 70 years
Travelers under 18 and over 70 still apply, but usually do not pay
ETIAS approval is valid for three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first
Authorization allows multiple short trips during the validity period
✈️ Before You Travel
Confirm your ETIAS authorization is approved before departure
Travel with the same passport used for your ETIAS application
Keep a digital or printed copy of your approval confirmation
Ensure airline and cruise bookings match your passport details exactly
⚠️ Important Reminders
ETIAS is not a visa and does not guarantee entry
Border officials may still request proof of onward travel or accommodations
Do not use unofficial websites offering early applications or inflated fees
ETIAS is expected to begin in late 2026, not earlier
