✅ ETIAS Checklist for U.S. Travelers to Europe

Planning a trip to Europe in 2026 or beyond? Use this checklist to stay ahead of the new ETIAS travel requirement.

🛂 Before You Apply

  • Confirm your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your planned return date

  • Verify that your destination countries are part of the ETIAS-required list

  • Check that your travel plans fall within the 90 days in any 180-day period rule

💻 Applying for ETIAS

  • Apply only through the official EU ETIAS website or mobile app once it launches

  • Have your passport available for accurate data entry

  • Provide a valid email address for approval notifications

  • Answer all security and travel history questions honestly

💶 Fees and Validity

  • Be prepared to pay the 20 euro fee if you are between the ages of 18 and 70 years

  • Travelers under 18 and over 70 still apply, but usually do not pay

  • ETIAS approval is valid for three years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first

  • Authorization allows multiple short trips during the validity period

✈️ Before You Travel

  • Confirm your ETIAS authorization is approved before departure

  • Travel with the same passport used for your ETIAS application

  • Keep a digital or printed copy of your approval confirmation

  • Ensure airline and cruise bookings match your passport details exactly

⚠️ Important Reminders

  • ETIAS is not a visa and does not guarantee entry

  • Border officials may still request proof of onward travel or accommodations

  • Do not use unofficial websites offering early applications or inflated fees

  • ETIAS is expected to begin in late 2026, not earlier
